How Long Will This Take?

One of the first things people ask Mark when they reach out is: "How long is this going to take?" Fair question — we're all busy living our lives. The good news is that for most document signings, notarization goes much faster than you'd expect.

Simple Single-Document Notarizations

For a single document — an affidavit, a power of attorney, a quitclaim deed — the notarization itself typically takes five to fifteen minutes. If you have your ID ready and your document is filled out correctly (minus the signature line), Mark can usually get in and out quickly.

Multiple Documents or Signers

If you have several documents to notarize, or if multiple people need to sign, the appointment will take a bit longer. Each signer needs to be identified individually, and each document has to be reviewed and stamped separately. A bundle of five or six documents with two signers might take 30 to 45 minutes.

Loan Signings

Loan closings are the longest type of appointment Mark handles, and for good reason — the paperwork is substantial. A typical refinance or purchase package can include 100 to 200 pages with dozens of signature and initial fields. Most loan signings take 60 to 90 minutes. Mark's clients appreciate that he keeps things moving efficiently without making them feel rushed.

What Can Slow Things Down

A few things can add unexpected time to an appointment: arriving without the right ID, a document that was partially filled out incorrectly and needs to be reprinted, questions about the document's contents (please note: Mark cannot provide legal advice, so an attorney may need to be looped in), or a missing page in the package. A little preparation on your end will always go a long way to ensure the signing goes quickly and smoothly.

How to Keep Your Appointment on Track

Have your government-issued photo ID ready. Don't sign the document ahead of time. Fill in everything except the signature line. If multiple people are signing, make sure everyone is present. Mark takes care of the rest.
